integrated music lessons

My approach to teaching would be more accurately described as guidance. Lessons are ultimately a shared exploration where teacher and student both develop their innate musicianship together.

Of course, I can provide a steady stream of lessons off the shelf, which is a necessary aspect of instruction, but I start with acknowledging your creative independence. I’ll facilitate your interests in music, from the humble goals of the campfire strummer, to the aspiring professional, in every way possible!
 GUITAR LESSONS
All ages and levels, from beginner to advancing.
All styles: Rock, blues, jazz, classical, folk, country, post-rock, experimental, etc...

For beginners and intermediate players:

Lessons are based around learning from the artists, bands, and styles you aspire to play like.
You learn whatever music gets you excited and empowered first, and we round that out with all the relevant building blocks.

You will make rapid progress by really understanding how music works. I slip theory, technique, & ear training into learning your favorite music without getting too formal about it. I keep spontaneity and creativity up front while you thoroughly learn the neck and the "why" about musical forms.

I encourage everyone to learn to read music, though it’s not always the first priority!

        Arpeggios, scales, modes,

Triads, 7th chords, quartal & quintal
        harmony, chord-voicing.

        Chord solo/ Solo chord styles.

        Reading, sight reading, lead sheets,
        jazz standards.

        repertoire.

Lessons explore these two distinct but connected facets of integrated musicianship, and can be designed to address the needs of:

Complete beginners who want to understand the fundamentals of music and get comfortable
being musical on the instrument(s) of their choice.

People with intuitive musical ability, but want a better working knowledge of music
        fundamentals.

Instrumentalists who can read music, but have difficulty improvising.

Singers who need ear training, sight singing skills, or to understand intervals, chords, & keys.

People in the healing arts who are interested in the laws of harmony & proportion.
